The Benefits of Bourbon

Hi everyone,
Since the entire universe seems to be on a health kick right now, I thought it’d be a good time to tell y’all some of the benefits (yes there are benefits!) of drinking bourbon- in moderation, of course. (Note: I am not a doctor, only a health conscious girl drawing on her own experiences).
First off, there are zero grams of sugar, carbs, or fat in pure distilled bourbon. This already makes it a better choice than a beer or sweet cocktail. Bourbon can help stimulate digestive enzymes after a heavy meal- unlike a carbonated seltzer- and also works as a stress reliever (duh!) to help unwind the nervous system.
Even more interesting, the aging process of bourbon, in charred oak barrels, infuses it with antioxidants, ellagic acid, and phenolic compounds, which help neutralize cellular-damaging free radicals. These “free radicals” are the things that break down cell walls, twist DNA, cause harmful imbalances in tissues, and ultimately lead to illness and aging. So, neutralizing them is important, and it's pretty cool that a glass of bourbon can help do so!
In a study done by Harvard, it was found that people who drink bourbon moderately had a 30% reduced risk of type-2 diabetes! This ties into the oak aging again, as the “ellagic acid” regulates insulin and glucose levels and helps to keep blood sugar in check.
It was also found that drinking a moderate amount of whiskey promotes healthy cholesterol levels, prevents heart disease, and boosts immune function by dilating the blood vessels that act as a decongestant!
I guess you really do learn something new everyday, and today, it's the fact that RPB can fit very nicely into your healthy lifestyle. So, grab yourself a bottle in person at Wellington Cellars, or order directly from our website!
Oh, and bourbon is also known to leave you with a milder hangover than other spirits, so I know what I’ll be drinking tonight, don’t you? ;)
Cheers,
Brie
